20 de March de 2026

From March 17 to 20, 2026, the Viçosa campus of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) welcomed a delegation from the University of Maryland, composed of Professors Colby Silvert and Fabiana Cardoso, accompanied by 16 undergraduate students.

The delegation arrived in Viçosa on March 17. On March 18, they were received by Professor Ricardo Santos at the Department of Agronomy, where topics related to Agroecology were addressed, providing students with an applied perspective on sustainable practices in the Brazilian context. The group then visited the Department of Veterinary Medicine, where they were welcomed by Professor Emily Carlo Reis, further broadening their exposure to different areas within the Agricultural Sciences.

The program also included technical visits to a dairy facility and a local cachaça distillery, allowing participants to gain firsthand insight into regional production chains and cultural aspects associated with agro-industrial activities. The day concluded with an integration barbecue held at the headquarters of the Directorate of International Relations, bringing together UFV students and faculty in an environment of academic and cultural exchange.

On March 19, the group visited coffee farms in the Serra do Brigadeiro region, deepening their understanding of Brazilian agricultural production. The delegation concluded its visit on March 20, returning to their home country.

The visit significantly contributes to strengthening institutional relations between UFV and the University of Maryland, while also expanding opportunities for academic exchange for students from both institutions. Experiences such as this foster international mobility, the development of intercultural competencies, and the establishment of long-term partnerships in teaching, research, and extension.
