TETFund delegation visits University

5 de February de 2025

A delegation from Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) visited the Viçosa campus this week to meet with Nigerian students pursuing postgraduate studies at UFV. Currently, there are 34 Nigerian students enrolled in master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs at UFV: 31 in Viçosa and three in Florestal. Of these, 22 are funded by TETFund, while the others receive scholarships from Brazilian agencies. UFV hosts the largest number of TETFund scholars, followed by São Paulo State University (Unesp).

The delegation included TETFund’s Director of Public Relations, Alh. Abdulmumin Banji Oniyangi; representative from the Department of Training and Academic Staff Development, Shehu Aisha Aliyu; and Senator Abba Patrick Moro. On Monday (27th), they conducted interviews with their scholarship recipients, and on Tuesday (28th), they met with Nigerian students in the Salão Nobre, including those funded by Brazilian agencies. They were welcomed by the Director of International Relations, Vladimir Oliveira Di Iorio.

Following the meeting, the delegation met with the Pro-Rector of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Raul Narciso Guedes, representing Rector Demetrius David da Silva, and the Special Advisor of the Pro-Rectorate of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Murilo Zerbini. They discussed how well the training provided by UFV is being received in Nigeria and expressed a desire to maintain and even expand the partnership with the country.

It’s noteworthy that over 100 Nigerians have been selected for postgraduate courses at UFV thanks to a partnership established in 2019 between the university and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), funded by TETFund.
