Between March 18 and 20, 2025, the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) hosted a delegation of 15 students and two professors from Purdue University, United States, for a short-term program that included academic, cultural, and institutional exchange activities.
The official welcome took place on March 18 at the headquarters of the Office of International Affairs (DRI/UFV), where the students were greeted with a welcome message, received information about the scheduled program, and completed the submission of necessary documents for institutional registration. Later that day, a social gathering was held with a barbecue at the ASPUV headquarters. The aim of this activity was to strengthen the bonds between the visiting students and Brazilian students involved in the UFV Ambassadors extension project, promoting intercultural integration in an informal setting.
On March 19, the participants took part in two academic experiences. The first focused on the research being conducted at UFV involving cannabidiol, showcasing scientific advancements and practical applications of the compound. The second activity was a technical visit to Gomide Dairy, where a workshop on cheese production techniques was held, allowing the students to observe both traditional and modern practices in the local dairy industry.
The activities on March 20 took place in the municipality of Araponga, in the state of Minas Gerais. The day began with a visit to UFV’s research center on Macaúba palm, followed by a meeting with local coffee producers, offering the students a comprehensive view of the regional production chain. The day concluded with a cultural and ecological tour of the municipality’s waterfalls, contributing to an understanding of the environmental and touristic context of the Zona da Mata region in Minas Gerais.
The delegation’s visit was officially concluded on March 21.
