About Viçosa

Founded in 1871, the municipality of Viçosa has an area of 299 km². It is located in the southeast region of the country, in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Atlantic Forest region, known as Zona da Mata Mineira, at an altitude of 649 meters. The climate is tropical at altitude, with rain during the summer and an average annual temperature of 19°C, which can vary between 14°C and 32°C.

The population of Viçosa comprises approximately 80,000 inhabitants and has a life expectancy of 74 years, with a Human Development Index – HDI – of 0.855. As it is a traditional university city, Viçosa is known as an educational city and its literacy rate is 92%. In addition to UFV, there are four other Higher Education institutions in the city.

The municipality’s economy is essentially based on education, agriculture, livestock, and the provision of specialized services (commerce and civil construction). Furthermore, the city has two hospitals, an Intensive Care Unit, two Surgical and Obstetric Centers, and several urgent and emergency care clinics.

How to get to Viçosa?

Arriving at Confins airport, in Belo Horizonte:

When disembarking, head to the airport’s outer runway, at the end of the parking pedestrian walkway, and board the bus on the Conexão Aeroporto-Rodoviária line, bound for Belo Horizonte Bus Station. As soon as you disembark at the bus station, look for the stand of Pássaro Verde, responsible for intercity transport to Viçosa. There you will purchase your ticket.

Arriving at Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo:

When you disembark at Guarulhos International Airport, you can purchase a plane ticket to Belo Horizonte (domestic flight via LATAM, GOL, or AZUL) or choose to travel by bus to Viçosa. In this case, head to the Tietê Bus Terminal. You should look for the Salutaris company counter, where you will purchase your ticket to Viçosa. It takes approximately 12 hours to travel by land.

Arriving at Galeão/Antônio Carlos Jobim airport, in Rio de Janeiro:

When you disembark at Rio de Janeiro International Airport, you can purchase a plane ticket to Belo Horizonte (domestic flight via LATAM, GOL, or AZUL) or choose to travel by bus to Viçosa. In this case, go to the Rio Bus Station. You should look for the Unida ticket office, where you will purchase your ticket to Viçosa. It takes approximately 6 hours to travel by land.
